Reflections of a Midwife Part Twelve

It’s now January 2023 and I’m happy with my decision to leave the NHS and concentrate on my classes…….however I now feel I have lost my identity
When all you have done is work all your life, it’s a very strange feeling when you have nowhere to be and no one to report to anymore You have no uniform to iron and no need to set an alarm clock Of course I still had my lovely amazing classes to teach which I adore more than anything …..however, would the pregnant moms still respect me if I was no longer actually working as a midwife But the Universe never fails to deliver and within six weeks of leaving ……my next dream job appeared …..a Legacy Midwife post (a brand new role looking for older and experienced midwives to support the newly qualified midwives in the Community)
Well I knew that job had my name on it so I applied and was successful and started the role back in the NHS on April 3rd this year ……just four months after leaving Good Hope
So here I am today working alongside my lovely Legacy Midwife Buddy Sara who is a dream to work with and we are supporting around 14-16 newly qualified midwives and new to community midwives across Solihull, Heartlands and Good Hope
It’s lovely being able to share what you have learnt and tips and tricks and acting as a “Big Sister” to them …….even though I sometimes think they think we are “Big Brother”
We are certainly not that
I hope this “snap shot” of my reflections hasn’t bored you too much
I’ve really enjoyed writing them and shed a few tears along the way as I remember special moms, special babies we lost and special midwives and support workers I’ve worked with
Trust me when I say I could write a book I really could .There is so much more to say & share and who knows where the next chapter is going to lead to If there is no new chapter I am more than happy with my life as a midwife and finishing as a Legacy Midwife is the icing on the cake.

Being a midwife has been a rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish and I am truly blessed with all the women I have shared my life with. I hope I made a difference
Love to all
